Five feral kittens that could not be touched without thick gloves were named Acorn, Spaghetti, ButterNut, Patty Pan and Zucchini. The rescue’s president, Sadie Anderson, had already given them a collective nickname that stuck. According to Love Meow, the kittens arrived unhandleable in September and within two days the rescue team had named them. Anderson explained that kittens between five and eight weeks old have a very malleable personality window that closes around nine weeks. Naming the litter was the first non-medical step that treated the kittens as individuals rather than a group.
