Jackson Galaxy, known for My Cat From Hell, is launching the Jackson Galaxy Project at We Care Animal Rescue in St. Helena, California. The nonprofit will use the rescue’s existing facilities as a headquarters to model a new approach to cat care that focuses on physical, emotional, and mental needs rather than just food and shelter.

The project will advocate for cats in homes, shelters, and communities, and will continue the rescue’s educational programs while expanding its mission. We Care Animal Rescue, founded in 1982, already keeps cats largely cage-free to allow natural movement and interaction.

Galaxy hopes the St. Helena location will demonstrate how individualized care-recognizing each cat’s personality, boundaries, and needs-can make shelters safer and more comfortable for animals.

Greater Good Charities, which has worked with Galaxy before, will continue collaborating with the rescue.

Key takeaways

  • Jackson Galaxy will chair the new project’s board of directors.
  • The project aims to create a model that prioritizes cats’ physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
  • We Care Animal Rescue has operated since 1982 and keeps cats mostly cage-free.
