Lorazepam May Cut Recurrent Blockages in Male Cats

Male cats often face life-threatening blockages that can recur after treatment. A recent study found that giving lorazepam, a drug used for anxiety, prevented any re-obstruction in cats that received it, compared to a 15.7% recurrence rate in the placebo group.

The medication helps relax the urethral muscles, reducing spasms that trap urine. This could lower the stress and vet visits for owners and give cats a better chance of staying healthy after an emergency.
