Grogu, a 10-week-old kitten weighing 1.2 pounds, was born on August 14 in a Georgia cattery that later closed. He has a persistent right aortic arch (PRAA), a congenital defect where the aortic arch remains on the right side and can form a vascular ring that compresses the esophagus.

The esophageal constriction can lead to megaesophagus, where the upper part of the tube enlarges and food may collect, causing regurgitation and increasing the risk of aspiration pneumonia. For a growing kitten, these complications make it hard to receive adequate nutrition.

Happy Tailz Cat Rescue is coordinating specialist care, including consultations with the University of Florida in Gainesville, to manage Grogu’s condition and plan future treatment.

Key takeaways

  • Grogu is 10 weeks old, weighs 1.2 pounds, and was born with PRAA.
  • PRAA can compress the esophagus, leading to megaesophagus and feeding difficulties.
  • The kitten’s condition raises risks of regurgitation and aspiration pneumonia.
  • Rescue staff are arranging specialist consultations to support Grogu’s care.
