Ragland, AL
Daggers Refuge Rescue is a small, home-based dog rescue in Ragland, Alabama, run out of the founder's own backyard and front porch. The rescue grew out of personal loss: after her dog Dagger passed away from cancer at a young age, the founder decided to foster as many animals as the years he didn't get to live. What started as taking in personal rescues, animals dropped off, abandoned, or brought by friends who could no longer keep them, has grown into an ongoing effort that has fostered more than 131 dogs to date. Daggers Refuge Rescue works with other regional groups, including Rotties & Notties Rescue, Pell City Animal Shelter, Bama Bully Rescue, and American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue. Adoption fees are $300 per dog, and 100 percent of that fee goes directly toward vaccinations, microchipping, and spay or neuter surgery for the animal adopted. Prospective adopters and fosters can apply directly through the rescue's website.
