Hoof or Paw K9 Rescue is a 501(c)(3) domestic nonprofit animal welfare organization located in the Pikeville community of Hamilton, Alabama, primarily focused on dog rescue. The organization describes itself as a rescue rather than a shelter: it has a facility used to care for dogs already in its program, but it isn't a public drop-off location and can't take in every animal it's asked to help, since every dog it accepts is a long-term commitment of kennel space, staffing, funding, and medical care. Dogs are placed up for adoption once they're healthy and spayed or neutered, and are listed on sites like Adopt-a-Pet.com, Petco Foundation, PetSmart Charities, and others. When Hoof or Paw can't place a dog locally, it transfers animals to a network of partner no-kill rescues, including Humane Animal Partners (formerly Delaware SPCA) and Happy Life Animal Rescue in New York. The organization was founded by Calen Weston in April 2021, after rescuing a 2.4-pound Hereford piglet named Billy Ray, which brought to light the lack of resources for animals in need in the Marion County area. Hoof or Paw serves Marion County, Alabama and its stray, unwanted pet population.

Fees, requirements & process

Email at info@hooforpaw.org or call (205) 303-5064 to get information about adoption process and fees.

Requirements

We highly recommend children under 10 years-old to meet the dog, and may require it for some dogs For some dogs, such as dogs with special medical or behavior needs, we may require all members of the household to be present If you have other dogs in your home, you must show proof that your current.

How it works

Remember to include any and all animals you're interested in meeting in the application because some of our animals are not onsite and in foster homes and we have to make those considerations when scheduling the appointment.
