Pretty Pittie Committee

The Pretty Pittie Committee is a woman-owned, foster-based 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to rescuing dogs, particularly pit bulls and other underdog breeds, from shelters and the streets across the South. Based in Semmes, Alabama, the organization places every dog with foster families that include children and other pets, so it can learn each dog's personality and match them with the right adoptive family; dogs with behavioral issues are not taken in or placed. The Pretty Pittie Committee partners with several shelters, SPCAs, and rescue organizations to help lower the number of unwanted animals in the South, with many of its dogs transported to adopters in the Northeast. Beyond adoption, the group offers low-cost spay/neuter and vaccine services for lower-income families so pets can stay in their homes rather than add to local overpopulation. The organization operates a thrift store, Pretty Thrifty, at 5268 Old Hwy 11 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, with proceeds supporting its rescue work, and partners with Cattiesburg Cafe to help promote its adoptable cats.
