River Region Animal Rescue

River Region Animal Rescue (RRAR) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer-run and foster-based animal rescue serving Alabama's River Region, based in Grady. The rescue grew out of the combined efforts of local animal lovers, veterinary professionals, and former zoo keepers who saw a need for greater animal welfare attention and education in the southeastern United States. Because RRAR has no physical facility, it relies entirely on unpaid volunteers for governance and day-to-day operations, rescuing, rehabilitating, and placing stray and neglected dogs and cats into responsible, committed homes without regard to age, breed, or how easy an animal is to place. As of February 2026, the organization has rescued and rehomed more than 300 animals. RRAR also runs a Golden Paws program and offers low-cost vaccine clinics as part of its broader mission to educate the community about pet sterilization, animal welfare, and rescue. Adopters must be 21 years of age or older, and a modest additional fee of $15 may apply for adopters who frequently use grooming, boarding, or dog park facilities.
