Shoals Spay and Neuter Coalition Start an adoption application

Shoals Spay and Neuter Coalition operates as Northwest Alabama Spay and Neuter Assistance (NASANA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2015 after more than 1,200 animals were euthanized in the group's three-county service area that year. NASANA helps reduce pet homelessness and euthanasia rates by making spay and neuter surgery affordable for low-income households in Colbert, Franklin, and Lauderdale counties who receive Food Stamps or Medicaid. Qualified applicants pay a $25 copay per pet that is current on rabies vaccination, or $35 if a rabies vaccine is needed at the time of surgery. The organization partners with several area veterinary clinics to perform the surgeries, including Animals Choice Clinic in Iuka, Colbert Animal Clinic and Quad-Cities Animal Hospital in Tuscumbia, Russellville Animal Clinic, and Smith Animal Clinic in Red Bay. NASANA has earned a Platinum transparency rating from Guidestar. As of this writing, the organization has paused new applications due to low funding and encourages the community to follow its Facebook page for updates on when applications reopen.
