Vietnam Animal Aid and Rescue- US

Vietnam Animal Aid and Rescue-US (VAAR) is a registered U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates a microsanctuary-style animal rescue shelter and farm sanctuary in Hoi An, in central Vietnam. Describing itself as Vietnam's only anti-speciesist rescue organization, VAAR's mission is to end animal suffering across species through rescue, lifelong sanctuary care, mass sterilization and vaccination, community education, and vegan advocacy. The organization currently houses around 35 animals spanning three species, including cats, dogs, chickens, and ducks needing lifelong care. VAAR's roots go back to 2013, when co-founder Catherine Besch started what was initially the Vietnam Animal Welfare Organization; VAAR itself formed when that original group later split, evolving from an animal welfare group into an animal rights organization. Over the years, the organization opened Vietnam's first nonprofit veterinary clinic (since closed, though it can still access care through partners) and became the country's first sanctuary for farmed animals, and has collaborated with the Vietnamese government on wildlife rescue near Hue. Supporters in the U.S. can donate to fund VAAR's sterilization, sanctuary, and outreach programs, or explore adopting one of its rescued animals. The reported adoption fee is $700.
