Oakland, CA
An Oakland nonprofit focused specifically on cats most at risk of euthanasia in shelters, including shy, fearful and medically dependent cats. It runs an adoption centre alongside a foster network built around cats that need more time and specialist care than a typical shelter can give.
From $50 per cat, including bonded pairs
Kittens must be adopted in pairs, or to a home with another young, playful cat.
Submit an adoption inquiry form to request a free adoption appointment, then come and meet the cats.
Estimated by applying the AVMA's 2024 national cat-ownership rate (32.1% of households) to the county's real household count from the Census Bureau — a national rate applied locally, not a local survey. Population and housing figures are from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey.
It is America's first cat cafe, run as a rescue in partnership with Oakland Animal Services. Cats live in a free-roam space you can spend time in rather than in kennels.
Wednesday 3pm-7pm, Thursday 10am-7pm, and Friday through Sunday 10am-5pm. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Appointments are recommended.
Fees start at $50, and that same starting fee applies to a bonded pair as well as a single cat.
Contact Cat Town through https://www.cattownoakland.org to ask about surrendering a cat. Intake policies change with shelter capacity, so check before bringing an animal in.
