Black Canyon Animal Sanctuary was founded in western Colorado in 2009. Its shelter closed in 2018, and its current work includes matching seniors with companion dogs or cats, veterinary-bill assistance and community help with rehoming and lost pets.
Created in 2011, the Silver Whiskers Program pairs senior clients with senior dogs and cats and covers all pet ownership expenses when financial need dictates.
The shelter closed in August 2018 due to the escalation of co-founder David Faulkner's Alzheimer's disease, with remaining dogs permanently adopted by the founders.
