Peoria, IL
Partner nonprofit supporting Peoria County Animal Protection Services (PCAPS), the only animal shelter in Peoria County. The Humane Society does not operate its own shelter: it funds medical care for abused and neglected shelter animals, recruits and trains volunteers, and promotes adoptions. Adoptions themselves take place at the PCAPS shelter.
Set by PCAPS. Dogs from $200 for a puppy or small breed (under 25 lbs or under 6 months). Every adoption includes spay/neuter surgery, microchip, first round of vaccines, general dewormer, heartworm test (adult dogs), and feline leukemia/FIV screening (adult cats).
Adopt through the PCAPS shelter at 2600 NE Perry Ave, Peoria, phone (309) 672-2440, or see the current adoptable list at peoriacounty.gov/152/Adopt-a-New-Pet
Estimated by applying the AVMA's 2024 national cat-ownership rate (32.1% of households) to the county's real household count from the Census Bureau — a national rate applied locally, not a local survey. Population and housing figures are from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey.
