Brooklyn, MD
Open-admission, high-volume shelter serving more than 12,000 homeless animals each year. Also runs a working cat program.
Fee amounts are not published. Adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, flea and parasite treatment, a microchip, and a starter bag of pet food.
Adopters must be at least 18, provide proof of current address and a current photo ID, interact with the animal they wish to adopt, and complete an adoption application
Browse adoptable pets online, visit during adoption hours and complete the application, tour the adoption rooms and meet animals with staff, get approval from the Adoptions Team, then attend an adoption class covering the pet's history and medical records. Same-day take-home if already altered and past stray hold. Foster-housed animals need pre-approval before meeting, and Petco/PetSmart location adoptions typically take 2 to 3 days.
Estimated by applying the AVMA's 2024 national cat-ownership rate (32.1% of households) to the county's real household count from the Census Bureau — a national rate applied locally, not a local survey. Population and housing figures are from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey.
Adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, flea and parasite treatment, a microchip, and a starter bag of pet food.
Adoptions Monday-Friday 2pm-6pm, Saturday-Sunday 11am-4pm.
