Established in 1996, Watermelon Mountain Ranch Inc is New Mexico's largest no-kill animal shelter dedicated to rescuing homeless dogs and cats that might otherwise face euthanasia. Operating without government funding, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit provides adoption services, low-cost vaccination clinics, microchipping, and community educational initiatives such as Molly's Mercy Missions.

Fees, requirements & process

From $100

Additional $100-$150 for purebred dogs (no papers), additional $125-$200 for A.K.C. registered dogs

How it works

Prospective adopters can view available cats and dogs online or visit the main campus or PetSmart partner locations to meet pets and complete an adoption.

Watermelon Mountain Ranch Inc cannot take in public-found strays due to municipal ordinances and directs finders to local municipal shelters. Surrenders of owned pets are coordinated through their Cat & Dog Surrender resources.
