Spaying Capital Region Unowned Feral Felines (SCRUFF) is a volunteer-run Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) organization founded by Dr. Susan Sikule of Just Cats Veterinary Clinic. Dedicated to humanely reducing community cat populations in New York's Capital District, SCRUFF has altered and vaccinated more than 10,000 stray and feral cats since 2007. The organization provides low-cost spay/neuter clinic arrangements, humane trap loans, and community education on feral cat care.
Scruff Inc arranges low-cost spay and neuter appointments for $75 (or whatever caregivers can afford), which include rabies and distemper vaccinations, fluids, flea treatment, and a mandatory left ear tip, alongside humane trap loans and trapping guidance.
No, Scruff Inc does not take in cats or kittens, perform emergency rescues, relocate feral cats, or investigate animal cruelty cases, though volunteers can refer callers to local rescues or humane law enforcement.
Caregivers must contact Scruff Inc by calling 518-526-3372 or emailing contact@scruffcats.org to arrange an appointment prior to trapping; monthly spay day clinics are held in partnership with the Animal Protective Foundation in Schenectady from March through November.
Scruff Inc does not take in, accept surrenders of, or foster cats or kittens, but can help caregivers locate local animal rescue organizations.
