Charlotte Sheltered Souls Animal Rescue (CSSAR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, foster-based animal rescue founded by Ali Bolger and dedicated to providing shelter and love to dogs and cats until they find forever homes. Focusing on pets often deemed undesirable or facing euthanasia in shelters, the organization also operates a community pet food bank to keep pets with their families and conducts Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release (TNVR) programs.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old. Resident animals must be up to date on vaccines and spayed/neutered, lease agreements must permit pets if renting, meet-and-greets are required for household dogs, and adopters must agree never to declaw cats.
Potential adopters submit an online application, which is reviewed within approximately 48 hours. After reference and veterinary checks, CSSAR conducts a phone interview and a home check (in person or virtual), followed by an in-person meet-and-greet with all household members and resident dogs before finalizing the adoption contract and fee.
Owner surrenders are accepted on a case-by-case basis as a managed-intake rescue, strictly depending on foster home availability.
