Sylva, NC
Founded in 1978 by a group of friends determined to help local animals, ARF (Humane Society of Jackson County) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, fostering, rehoming, and providing spay/neuter services for dogs in Jackson County. We provide safe, loving foster homes for dogs of all ages, sizes, and breeds. ARF supplies everything needed—food, crates, toys, and medical care—while our foster families provide the care and compassion that help dogs thrive until they find their forever homes. In partnership with Catman2, ARF also operates a low-cost spay/neuter program, transporting dogs and cats to the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance each month. This program now serves animals from the Jackson County Animal Shelter as well. ARF is powered by a dedicated Board of Directors, volunteers, and rescue partners—including Sylva Animal Hospital and Best Day Ever Doggy Daycare. If you’d like to be part of our mission, we’re always looking for fosters and volunteers to join the team.
