Community Cat CARE traces its roots to Community Cat Care of Santa Rosa, started in 1998 by four women dedicated to reducing the cat and kitten population in Sonoma County, California, and creating an adoption path for unwanted and uncared-for animals. It became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1999, and has since placed more than 600 cats and kittens into new homes. All animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and tested for leukemia before placement, and prospective adopters are carefully screened so the animals they've already rescued once aren't made homeless again.
