Founded in 2007, Paws for Life Rescue is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected, and abandoned cats, kittens, and dogs from overflowing shelters in southeast Michigan. Operating through a foster home network, they provide comprehensive medical care, spay/neuter services, and behavioral support to prepare companion animals for lifelong adoptive homes. While navigating transitionary funding challenges, they continue to champion life-saving rescue, adoption, and medical support for pets in need.
Adult Cats: $75 (or $110 for a pair); Kittens (6 months and younger): $125 (or $200 for a pair); Senior pet discounts available for adopters age 65+
Adopters must be at least 18 years old and commit to providing a lifelong home. Cats must live indoors (except working barn cats or unsocialized community cats), and declawing is strictly prohibited under contract with an enforced $1,000 violation fine. All household members are preferred to participate in the meet-and-greet, and a minimum 2-week adjustment period is required.
Adopters start by submitting an online application, followed by a phone consultation with an adoption counselor to discuss pet matching. Once potential matches are selected, a meet-and-greet is scheduled at the adopter's home, an area shelter, or an adoption event with all household members present. Upon placement, there is a mandatory minimum two-week adjustment period before the adoption is finalized and ownership is transferred.
The organization provides community support resources including 'Rehoming Your Pet', cat behavior assistance, and temporary crisis housing guidance.
