Pets Bring Joy (PBJ) is a foster-based 501(c)(3) animal rescue based in Fairfax, Virginia, serving the Northern Virginia, Washington D.C., and Suburban Maryland communities. Dedicated to reducing the homeless animal population, PBJ focuses primarily on cat and kitten rescue, foster home placement, senior and special-needs animal care, and comprehensive community cat colony support including TNR pathways, medical care, and food provisions.
$200 for a single cat or kitten; $300 for a pair of cats/kittens; $100 for a special needs or senior cat; $160 for a special needs or senior cat pair (includes age-appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, and microchipping).
Adopters must complete an application and screening process (telephone interview, veterinary check for pets owned in the past five years, landlord approval, and home visit). For young kittens, adopters must adopt a pair or already have another young, friendly cat in the home.
Submit an online no-obligation adoption application. An adoption counselor reviews the application, followed by a telephone interview, a veterinary reference check (if you have had pets within the past five years), a landlord check if applicable, and a Covid-safe home visit. Once approved, meet-and-greets are arranged by appointment either in foster homes or at public adoption venues, taking approximately one week in total.
PBJ assists with owner surrenders when hardship overcomes families, helping provide options and assistance to keep or rehome their pets, as well as taking in strays and animals from overcrowded shelters.
