Provide proof of address if you own a home, such as a tax bill, mortgage statement, homeowners insurance or deed. Please note that we can also access this information via the county land record system. If you rent, we require a landlord signature on a Landlord Permission Form that is available at the shelter and the option to be able to speak with the property owner or rental agent during the adoption process.
All dogs, cats, and rabbits are sterilized before adoption or have a scheduled spay/neuter appointment. A pre-adoption application with references and proof of housing permission is required.
Estimated by applying the AVMA's 2024 national cat-ownership rate (32.1% of households) to the county's real household count from the Census Bureau — a national rate applied locally, not a local survey. Population and housing figures are from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey.
Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday 12pm-5pm; Thursday 12pm-7pm; closed Sunday, Wednesday, and holidays.
Contact Humane Society of Marathon County at 715-845-2810 to ask about surrendering a cat. Intake policies change with shelter capacity, so check before bringing an animal in.
