Feral Kittens Quickly Trust Humans After Rescue
A group of five feral kittens from Sonora, California, were rescued by Sadie Anderson of Sonora Cat Rescue after several attempts. The kittens, initially too skittish to be picked up without thick gloves, were slowly socialized in a foster home.
Sadie notes that kittens between five and eight weeks old have a very malleable personality window, which closes around nine weeks. The kittens were only six weeks old when they began receiving food and play exclusively from Sadie, allowing them to associate humans with positive experiences. Within two days, the kittens-nicknamed “spice nuggets”-were approaching her, leaning into scratches, and even purring. A week later, the once-wild litter was fully at ease, tumbling and play-fighting like any other kittens.
Once the quarantine period ends, the rescued kittens are expected to join the existing “Cheers” group, forming a larger happy family. The effort would not have been possible without the elderly homeowners who fed the colony for years, keeping the cats alive long enough to be reached.
