Kitten Rescued From Excavator, Joins Construction Crew

A construction crew in Ohio rescued a tiny ginger kitten from inside a Komatsu excavator before the day’s work began. The kitten, later named Komatsu or "Sue," has become a new coworker.

Rescue Inside the Excavator

The crew heard meows coming from a cavity inside the excavator while checking equipment. A baby girl kitten had fallen in and could not get out. Chase Guello, an operating supervisor, removed the 100-pound skid plates at the bottom of the machine. After unscrewing and kicking the plates loose, the kitten landed heroically on the ground and was safely scooped up.

From Rescue to Job Site

After the rescue, the kitten was taken to One of a Kind Pets, a rescue and adoption center in Akron, Ohio. She was fostered by a friend of the mechanics’ mother for a few weeks before being adopted by the company’s shop mechanic. The company’s owner asked followers for a name, and the winning choice was Komatsu, or "Sue," after the excavator brand. Komatsu North America sent Sue a tiny reflective construction vest and a hard hat with holes for her ears, celebrating her new role on the job site.
