Brooklyn, NY
Founded in 2010, Brooklyn Animal Action Inc is an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue network dedicated to improving the lives of animals in New York City. The organization rescues and rehomes adoptable cats, facilitates Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs, and provides community outreach, education, and advocacy. Operating without a physical shelter, they have placed thousands of cats into permanent homes.
Applicants must be at least 18, be the primary caregiver, and live in or near New York, New Jersey or Connecticut. Kittens under one year must be adopted in pairs or into a home with a young, playful cat or dog. Applicants must provide personal, professional and veterinary references, along with proof that existing pets are spayed or neutered and vaccinated. A virtual home visit checks for secure window screens and toxic plants.
Submit an online adoption application, complete personal and professional reference checks (including a vet reference for current or recent pet owners), undergo a brief virtual home visit to ensure window screens and pet safety, and arrange to pick up the cat within one week of approval.
Brooklyn Animal Action does not take direct owner surrenders as rescues are overextended, but offers guidance and resources to help owners safely rehome their cats independently rather than surrendering or abandoning them.
