Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition Inc (BBAWC) is a non-profit animal rescue coalition founded in 2007 dedicated to improving cat welfare and proactively addressing cat homelessness and overpopulation across New York City. The organization operates the Brooklyn Cat Cafe, one of the first non-profit rescue cat cafes in the country, along with the BBAWC Rescue Clinic, which provides high-volume low-cost spay/neuter and veterinary services. Through foster care, rescue adoption, community trap-neuter-return (TNR) initiatives, and humane education, BBAWC works toward a future where zero cats suffer on NYC streets.
Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition Inc serves Brooklyn, New York City.
Interested adopters can view adoptable cats online or visit the Brooklyn Cat Cafe to interact with animals, followed by submitting an adoption application.
Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition Inc operates the Brooklyn Cat Cafe as its public adoption center and community space, alongside the BBAWC Rescue Clinic offering low-cost spay/neuter, vaccinations, and basic medical services for both pet owners and homeless cat rescuers.
Because BBAWC is not a traditional shelter and operates with limited foster space, they cannot immediately take owner-surrendered cats; however, they provide guidance, support owners looking to rehome through their foster network, and connect people with community resources such as Animal Care Centers of NYC.
The BBAWC Rescue Clinic is located inside the Brooklyn Cat Cafe and offers low-cost surgical and preventive veterinary care by online appointment.
BBAWC has limited space and staff and generally cannot take cats immediately, but they assist owners in rehoming pets either while the owner fosters or by attempting to place the cat into their foster network, while recommending resources like Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC).
