(LPAH) is a 501(c)(3) volunteer-run, foster-based nonprofit rescue dedicated to saving the lives of unwanted and at-risk animals throughout Lee County, North Carolina, and surrounding areas. Founded by Mary Ashburn and her husband Ed, the organization places rescued cats and dogs in loving foster homes while preparing them for permanent placement. LPAH also provides community support through resources like low-cost spay/neuter information, community pet initiatives, and volunteer programs.

Requirements

Adoption application, personal and veterinary reference checks, home visit (in-person or virtual), meet and greet, signed Adoption Agreement, and government-issued photo ID verification. Adopters must reside in NC, SC, or VA ($20 travel fee applies if over 25 miles from foster).

How it works

Interested adopters complete an online application, followed by reference checks (personal and veterinary). Once screened, LPAH schedules an in-person or virtual home visit and a meet-and-greet with the pet. Upon approval, adopters execute an Adoption Agreement and provide government-issued photo ID.
