Founded in 2017 by Emily Gossard and Carissa Clute, Velvet Acres Animal Rescue is a non-profit animal rescue based in Zebulon, North Carolina. The organization rescues dogs, cats, and small animals from shelters, animal control, and owner surrenders, housing adoptable pets in foster homes while operating a sanctuary for animals needing specialized care.
$40-$200 ($50 for adult cats, $85 for kittens, $140 for a pair of kittens)
Applicants must be at least 18, provide valid identification, and obtain landlord approval if renting. Existing pets must be spayed or neutered and current on core vaccinations; existing cats must also meet the FIV/FeLV testing requirement. All household members must meet the animal, and a limited background check is required.
Contact an adoption counselor to verify animal availability and receive a required unique application code, submit the online application (processing takes 3-4 business days), complete household and meet-and-greet requirements, and schedule pet pickup.
The organization takes in animals from owner surrenders as well as local animal control organizations and shelters.
