The Shelter Animal Project is a 501(c)(3) foster-based rescue founded in 2009 and serving New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Dedicated to giving shelter animals a future, the volunteer-run organization rescues dogs and cats from municipal shelters or owners who can no longer care for them and nurses them back to health in loving foster homes until adoption.
Completion of an adoption screening form, veterinary reference checks (verifying current/past pets are altered and up to date on vaccinations), personal references, and a meet-and-greet with current dogs in the home.
Applicants submit an online adoption screening form, after which volunteers review the application and verify veterinary and personal references within 48 hours to a few days. If approved, a meet-and-greet is scheduled with the family and any existing resident dogs before final adoption approval is granted.
Owners must submit a Master Owner Surrender Form and sign a release agreement. Animals must pass a thorough temperament test (animals with any bite history are strictly not accepted). Surrender fees are $125 for altered animals up to date on vaccines, or $200–$250 if unaltered or not current on vaccinations.
