Houston, TX
Special Pals is Houston's longest-running no-kill animal shelter dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming companion animals, including cats and kittens. Serving the Greater Houston area, they provide low-cost veterinary clinic services, adoption programs, and community foster opportunities. Their mission focuses on saving animal lives and promoting responsible pet guardianship across Texas.
Cats: $80, Kittens: $110 (includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchip)
Adopters must be at least 18 years old with a valid government-issued photo ID, obtain landlord approval if renting, and be prepared to provide lifetime indoor care and veterinary maintenance.
Prospective adopters can view available cats online or visit the shelter during open hours. An adoption application is completed and reviewed by staff to ensure a suitable match, after which adopters can finalize the adoption and take their new companion home.
Special Pals is a limited-intake shelter that accepts animal surrenders based strictly on space, resources, and staffing capacity. Pet owners must submit an online Animal Surrender Request Form for review before an intake appointment can be scheduled.
