Operation Fancy Free, Inc. is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of community cats across Jackson County, as well as Mason and Roane counties in West Virginia. Through comprehensive Trap-Neuter(Spay)-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) services, community education, and preventative care, they focus on compassionate and sustainable feline population management. They also operate a Working Cat Transition and Adoption Program to safely relocate and place cats in situations where returning to their original outdoor colony is unsafe.

Fees, requirements & process

Requirements

Caretakers must provide shelter, daily food, and safe containment (e.g., in a large crate or secure enclosure) for 30 to 60 days to allow working cats to properly acclimate to their new environment and prevent them from escaping.

How it works

Interested adopters submit an application for the Working Cats Transition and Adoption Program. Operation Fancy Free reviews the application, inspects the proposed barn, warehouse, garage, or business facility to ensure safety, and upon approval, works with the caretaker to transition and acclimate the cats.

Surrendering a cat

Operation Fancy Free does not operate a traditional shelter or foster program and generally does not take pet surrenders. Their core mission is TNVR (returning community cats to their outdoor homes after sterilization and vaccination), though working cat relocation is facilitated for cats in imminent danger.
