The largest animal shelter in north Idaho, serving Kootenai County and the Coeur d'Alene area. Formerly the Kootenai Humane Society, it rebranded as Companions Animal Center in 2022 and moved into a purpose-built facility in Hayden in 2023. It runs a low-cost spay and neuter clinic alongside its adoption programme, and every cat leaves fully vetted.

Every adoption fee covers spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, a rabies vaccine and a microchip.
